Queensland's Gambling Community Benefit Fund is the state's largest one-off community grants program, distributing approximately $60 million each year to eligible not-for-profit community groups.
The Department of Justice says it is introducing a new online grants system. Details of the next funding round are still being finalised, and no next-round date has been announced.
Do not guess the next closing date
Past GCBF schedules may help organisations understand how the program has operated, but they are not confirmation of the next round. The department says it will publish updates on its website, social channels and GCBF Connect newsletter when the new system is ready.
Until that announcement, describe the round as not yet open rather than “opening soon” on the basis of an old calendar.
Prepare the organisation first
Community groups can use the transition period to check their underlying readiness. Review:
- legal and not-for-profit status
- organisation registration details
- governing documents
- bank-account and authorised-contact information
- whether prior GCBF grants have been properly acquitted
- current quotes for proposed items
- ownership or permission relating to the project site
- licences, approvals and insurance where relevant
- whether each requested item is eligible
- whether the organisation can complete the project and acquittal obligations

Define a fundable project
A clear project starts with the community need, beneficiaries and practical result. The budget and quotes should describe the same scope. If the organisation is seeking equipment, repairs or facility improvements, confirm ownership, permissions, installation requirements and ongoing maintenance responsibilities.
Avoid buying an item before checking the next round's rules. A quote is evidence of cost; it is not approval to spend.
Plan for assessment time
The department states that application outcomes may take four to five months after a closing date. Organisations should not promise a project start that depends on funding arriving earlier than the published assessment process allows.
Follow official updates
The safest monitoring approach is to bookmark the GCBF page and subscribe to GCBF Connect. When the round opens, re-check the new portal process, closing time, maximum request, eligible items, quote rules and any changed registration requirements.
