Is the $25,000 Energy Efficiency Grant for SMEs Still Open?

No. The well-known federal Energy Efficiency Grants for SMEs program is closed to new applications; here is how to avoid stale grant listings.

The federal Energy Efficiency Grants for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises program is closed to new applications.

The official department page says businesses could previously apply for grants between $10,000 and $25,000 across two rounds. It records that the second round closed in April 2024 and the first round closed in April 2023.

Why the program still appears in searches

Old grant pages, media articles and business blogs can remain visible long after applications close. The headline amount continues to attract clicks, even when the administering body clearly labels the program closed.

This is why a grant list should never be treated as current merely because the page still exists.

What the former program supported

The department describes activities such as replacing inefficient equipment, improving heating systems, conducting energy audits and installing monitoring systems. Those examples can still help a business define an energy-upgrade project, but they do not create a current entitlement or open application pathway.

What to do instead

Treat “closed” as useful information

A closed-program article should not imply that applications are available. Its useful purpose is to correct stale search results, preserve official history and direct businesses back to current sources.

If a new round is announced, assess it from the new guidelines rather than assuming the old eligibility and expenditure rules will continue.

Official sources

Program rules and dates can change. Use these administering-body sources as the final authority.
