Grant & Tender Co is based at Coolum Beach, so the question we get asked at the surf club and the hardware store is not "what grants exist" but "what is open for us, here, now". This is that answer for the Sunshine Coast and Noosa as at 7 September 2026, built in three layers: council, state, federal. Council is first because it is the layer most local clubs and small businesses win from and the one they most often miss.
Layer one: Sunshine Coast Council
Council runs more grant programs than most residents realise. The index lists arts funding, Major Grants, Minor Grants, festive and commemorative event grants, emergency grants, environment levy funding, heritage funding, individual development grants, councillor discretionary funding, community partnership funding, sports field maintenance funding and a recreation trails partnership program.[1]
The one open right now is the one to act on.
- Major Grants close on 6 October 2026. Not-for-profit groups can apply for up to $15,000, or up to $30,000 for infrastructure, across community development, community facilities, creative development, cultural heritage, economic development, and sport and recreation. Co-funding is nil up to $7,500, 50 per cent for $7,501 to $15,000 and 75 per cent for $15,001 to $30,000. Volunteer hours can be valued at up to $47 an hour toward that contribution, and results take ten to twelve weeks. The grants team is on (07) 5420 8616.[2]
- Minor Grants, up to $3,000 through one round a year via SmartyGrants, closed on 13 July 2026, so the next opportunity is mid-2027.[3]
- Festive and Commemorative Events Grants offer up to $15,000 for regional events and $3,000 for local ones. Applications for Christmas and New Year 2026 and Australia Day 2027 events close on 14 September 2026, and Anzac Day 2027 applications close on 1 February 2027.[4]
- Sports Field Maintenance Funding closed on 5 May 2026 and can fund up to three years.[1]
For businesses rather than clubs, council's support is mostly non-cash: the free Level Up Your Business program and resource guide, a free fortnightly business e-newsletter and the free Thriving Through Change business expo.[5] The Level Up platform collates grants, funding and procurement resources from chambers, industry groups and all levels of government, which makes it a useful local starting page.[5]
Layer one, Noosa edition
Noosa Council's community program has a different rhythm.[6]
- Community Quick Response Grants of $500 to $2,500 opened on 1 July 2026 and stay open until the funds are spent.[6] Small, fast and worth a phone call to (07) 5329 6433 before applying.
- Community Project Grants Round 25 opens on 8 February 2027 and closes on 23 March 2027.[6]
- Signature Community Event Grants and Community Alliance Agreements are not due to open again until February 2028.[6]
- Environment Project Grants and the Climate Change Response Grant, $1,000 to $30,000, ran February to March 2026 and will be next year's job.[6]
For Noosa businesses, the Economic Development Grant pays $1,000 to $5,000 on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted or the financial year ends.[7]
Layer two: Queensland
The state program most relevant to Coast clubs right now is the Gambling Community Benefit Fund. Round 127 opened on 31 August 2026 and closes on 28 September 2026, with grants of up to $35,000 through a new online grants system; outcomes can take four to five months.[8] A club preparing a Major Grants application for 6 October can often run a GCBF application off the same quotes and financials, subject to each program's rules on what can be funded.
Beyond that, the Queensland Government's Grants Finder is the single search for state grants, rebates, loans and subsidies.[9] For trade employers the current state apprentice incentives are covered in our separate guides; both are capped programs rather than deadline programs.
Layer three: federal
Regional Development Australia Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast does not administer grant funds itself but maintains a grants information page pointing to the Industry Growth Program, GrantConnect, business.gov.au, Made in Queensland and the Business Growth Fund alongside council grants.[10] The business.gov.au finder, filtered to Queensland and regional, is the fastest check on whether a federal program applies to a Coast business.[11]
Reading the calendar
Three dates matter in the next month: 14 September for festive event grants, 28 September for GCBF Round 127, and 6 October for council Major Grants. After that the Coast goes quiet until Noosa's project grants in February 2027 and the next council minor round in mid-2027.
A club or business that wants to be funded in 2027 should be assembling quotes, financial statements and insurance certificates now, because every program above asks for some combination of the three and the ones that are open will not wait.
